Brush up on your cooking and drinking skills this week at one of several educational events around town. If you’d rather let someone else do the cooking, there are plenty of delicious activities that come pre-cooked, too. Keep reading for a taste of this week’s culinary calendar

Monday, November 2

Frasca Food and Wine will host Richard Betts at a dinner and whiskey-tasting to celebrate the release of his next book, The Essential Scratch & Sniff Guide to Becoming a Whiskey Know-It-All. Starting at 6:30 p.m., Betts will guide guests through ten whiskeys. The dinner is $250 per person and includes the meal, a ten-whiskey flight, a signed copy of book, tax and gratuities. Tuesday, November 3

The Denver Botanic Gardens and Chipotle will wrap up the 2015 Chipotle Sustainability Food Film Series today with a screening of Hanna Ranch.  The film is $5 and begins at 6:30 p.m.; dinner from Chipotle will be served at 6 p.m. and is included in the ticket price. Join the Denver Voice for its annual Wine and Appetizer evening at Marlowe’s Restaurant at 6 p.m. tonight. The evening includes a holiday-gift themed silent auction, meet-and-greet with Voice vendors, and wine and appetizers pairings. Tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the door, get yours here.

TAG will host winemaker Tadeo Borchardt, who will be pouring wines from Neyers Wines to complement a five-course meal by chef Troy Guard. Work Options for Women will hold its monthly cooking class today with guest instructor Jake Grant, executive chef of Euclid Hall. The class will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cafe Options, and tickets are $50; purchase yours and learn more here. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the class will benefit Work Options for Women.

Pizzeria Locale Boulder is hosting a special Apertivo Hour today from 4 to 6 p.m. The apertivo snacks will include $2 prosciutto platters and $2 tartine open-faced sandwiches, as well as drink specials including $2 Peroni and $4 Contratto spritz. Call 303-442-3003 to make your reservation.

All through November, the Denver Bicycle Cafe is donating $1 to Trips for Kids Denver/Metro for every pint of Mockery Brewing’s Rakau IPA that is poured from the new Confluence Tap Handle. Coohills will be celebrating the restaurant’s four-year anniversary with a special wine dinner tonight. The five-course dinner will feature five wine pairings from Franciscan Estate Wines; winemaker Marla Carroll will be on hand to answer questions and educate guests on the wines. The Santa Fe Art District will close off the street for the second time this year to hold a special First Friday, featuring the usual art walk activities as well as an outdoor saloon with local breweries and distillers. The all-local outdoor saloon will be set up from 7 to 10 p.m. at 733 Santa Fe Drive, in the parking lot north of Su Teatro. The First Friday Festivities will also serve as neighborhood’s opening event for Denver Art Week, which runs through November 14. For more information, visit denver.org.

The Republic of Tea will be popping up in Whole Foods SouthGlenn this weekend. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., today through Sunday, the Republic of Tea’s entire collection of 300 premium teas and herbs will be available at the pop-up market. For more information, click here.

Cook Street School of Culinary Arts welcomes Strange Craft Beer Company for the schools Bites n’ Brews class today. The course will guide students through the complexities of cooking with beer, as well as pairing craft beer with food, as they cook and enjoy a menu complete with beer pairings from Strange Craft.
